There is a move by some BJP supporters to get PM Modiji and the Parliament to grand Dual Nationality. As you know, GOPIO was the first organization to pass a resolution at the First Global Convention of People of Indian Origin in New York in 1989. Since then we had campaigned and got PIO card in 2003 and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card in 2006. Modiji’s supporter Sekhar Tiwari contacted me and asked to join a brainstorming session with a former cabinet secretary Mr. KM Chandrasekhar and a former ambassador who was with Ministry of External Affairs Mr. TP Sreenivasan on Saturday. It is a closed in meeting. I had connected our Life Member Naren Thapetta to that group. He had prepared the following document on the constitutionality of Dual Citizenship. Naren had also approached the Supreme Court with law suit so as regain his citizenship.
Here is the first draft on dual citizenship prepared last month by an OCI Card holder Mr. Naren Thappetta, who lives in Bangaluru. He is a speaker tomorrow. He provided some key (considered but unconventional) observations on the Constitution. Please see below:
